New Patient Registration

We welcome new patients to our practice. If you are a new patient to the practice, you are asked to attend an appointment for a health check with a practice nurse or healthcare assistant and complete a patient profile form. The health check gives us the opportunity to meet you and your family and to tell you about the practice and the patient profile information helps us tailor our services to the needs of our practice population. The health check will also include checking your weight, blood pressure and urine and to give any necessary health advice. Please bring a sample of urine (in a clean bottle) with you to your new patient check.

We are able to offer the ability to pre-register using this website.  Please click HERE to use this facility

Following pre-registration, you then need to call in at surgery to sign a form and book a new patient check. We will also register you to be able to use our automated arrival system and if you have access to the Internet, register you to be able to view and cancel your appointments on line.

The practice operates a non-discriminatory policy and registration is not restricted in any way.

Well Baby Clinics
Tuesdays 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm
By Prior appointment

Please note that from August 2010, Well Baby Clinic is now BY APPOINTMENT ONLY

The Health Visitors, Dr Carson and Diane Alexander run this clinic.  At the clinic, babies and children receive their immunisations and checks of growth and development. However, you may bring any child under school age to the baby clinic if you have any worries. If you think your child may be infectious (e.g. a cough, cold or rash), then please bring your child to an ordinary surgery rather than the Baby Clinic, to avoid spreading infections to well babies.

Other Services

Lifestyle Checks
Should you wish to have a general health check or seek advice on lifestyle please make an appointment with a practice nurse.

Contraceptive Services
A comprehensive service of contraceptive advice is always available from all the doctors or from our practice nurses.

Emergency contraception is always available from the nurse or GP. However, to be effective the "morning after pill" must be taken as soon as possible after you have had unprotected sex

Cervical smear tests
Cancer of the cervix can be prevented and all female patients between the ages of 25 and 65 are advised to have regular smear tests. These are important because they can detect early signs of disease, which is easily treated. We operate a "Call and Recall" system to remind you about the tests which are carried out during normal surgeries. Please make an appointment for smears with the nurse. Patients may request a female GP if required.

Cardiovascular checks
These are offered to all people with a risk of developing heart disease. This includes people with high blood pressure, high blood fats, smokers and those with a family history of heart attacks, angina or strokes.

Minor Surgery
It may be possible to have small lumps and bumps, moles, warts and verrucae removed at the surgery. Please ask your doctor if you have a problem you think may be helped by a minor operation.

Counselling
We usually have access to counsellors who help people troubled by anxiety, depression and stress. Appointments to see the counsellor are made via your doctor.

Private Medicals
Some forms of medical care are not available on the NHS such as driving, insurance and employment examinations. The necessary reports and certificates can be provided and a fee will be charged. A statement of fees for medical work outside the Health Service can be obtained from Reception.

If you require a medical examination please advise reception at the time of making your request for an appointment. You will then be allocated an appropriate length of time for your examination.

Health Visitors
The Health Visitors are trained nurses, often with other nursing qualifications, and have spent a further year training to help everyone stay healthy. Anyone can gain access to a health visitor by requesting a home visit, or being seen in a clinic or at the surgery. Well baby clinics, hearing and development checks of your children are organised at the surgery. Health Visitors are available 9 am - 10 am each morning and 4 pm - 5 pm each evening except Friday. Direct line: 0121 440 3765.

Anticoagulation Clinic
Bellevue Medical Centre has previously held Beacon Site Status for its management of patients taking warfarin to thin their blood. These nurse led clinics are held on Tuesday mornings and are by appointment only.

Immunisation Advice

Children
It is important that all children and babies are immunised. Illnesses such as diphtheria, tetanus and polio are thankfully rare now because of recent immunisation policies, but if contracted can be crippling and even fatal. We are currently concerned at the risk of vulnerable patients contracting mumps. There have been recent outbreaks amongst the very young and also those born in the UK between 1980 and 1987 who have not previously had two doses of MMR. Mumps can easily be prevented by the MMR vaccination. We strongly recommend that all babies have this vaccination along with their other baby injections. We also offer MMR vaccination to patients born in the UK between 1980 and 1987 who have not previously had appropriate vaccination. If you have any worries or queries about any aspect of your child's immunisations, please feel free to discuss them with your doctor or Practice Nurse.

Adults
Tetanus
For those who have had their normal childhood immunisations, which includes school leaving tetanus, diphtheria and polio, this provides lifelong cover for tetanus.

Influenza
In October every year, we offer a completely free flu vaccination to our patients. It is strongly recommended for those with heart or chest disease, diabetes, those who live in institutions or nursing homes and those over the age of 65.

Pneumococcal
A one-off completely free vaccination against the pneumococcus strain offered to all patients over the age of 65 years. One vaccination provides lifelong cover.

Travel
A comprehensive travel vaccination service, including yellow fever, is offered at the surgery. See one of the practice nurses for details. A charge will be made for yellow fever (currently £45), please ask reception for current fees before booking your appointment.
